​Election Board

The Election Board shall have overall responsibility for the conduct of the elections authorized under the Constitution.

The duties of the Election Board include, but not limited to, the following:
1.Maintenance of Voter Registration lists and Registration books;
2.Publication of Election Notices;
3.Acquisition of Election Supplies;
4.Procurement of Contracts for Third Party Service Providers;
5.Ruling on Qualifications of Candidates;
6.Development and promulgation of election rules and regulations, which shall be subject to review and approval of the Business Committee; and
7.Reporting any violations of this Ordinance or other election law to the Marshal or other law enforcement personnel.

Election Board members are elected officials of the tribe and are not employees. Board members shall not accrue leave, retirement, insurance, vehicle privileges or any other benefits provided to employees of the Tribe, unless otherwise designated in writing by the Business Committee.

The duties of the Election Board Officers shall include, but not limited to, the following:
1.Chairperson. The Chairperson shall preside over all Board meetings and shall be the designated board member to receive correspondence from other Tribal officials. The Chairperson may convene meetings of the Board and recommend agendas for all meetings. The Chairperson may delegate other duties, as he/she deems necessary, to other members of the Board.
2.Vice-Chairperson. The Vice-Chairperson shall conduct roll call and declare a quorum present at the opening of each meeting. In the absence of the Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson shall preside over Board meetings and assume other duties and responsibilities of the Chairperson.
3.Secretary. The secretary shall ensure that accurate minutes are kept of all meetings, provided that any delegation of responsibility to an employee or third party pursuant to this Section may be approved by resolution of the Board. The Secretary shall read the minutes upon request, and shall call to the attention of the Board any unfinished business from previous meetings. The Secretary shall provide all communications, which have been received, to the Board. The Secretary shall answer all correspondence with a Board-approved response. In the absence of the Secretary, the Chairperson shall appoint an Acting Secretary for the duration of the Secretary’s absence.
4.Marshal. The Marshal shall work with Tribal law enforcement in order to maintain order at the polls and shall enforce the election laws. The Marshal shall have the power of a Tribal Peace Office from the time polls open until the declaration that all election results are final.
